CHURCH SEARCH

There are so many great churches and we'd love you to be a part of the wider church community in Notts! We're so passionate about being part of a local church during your time here at Trent. Check out the churches below for some ideas! Each description is by each church, and hopefully gives you a flavour of the life of the church, as well as how you can get involved during student life.

It's unlikely that we'll be able to church search in person this year, but we'll try to help you become part of a church anyway! We have CU members going to most of these churches and can put you in touch to help you get stuck in!

Beeston Free

Beeston Free Church is an independent, evangelical church with around 500 people worshipping on a Sunday  across our 3 congregations.  As a church family, we want to glorify God through lives transformed by the gospel.  We love welcoming students to our church and seeing them grow during their time in Nottingham.

Cornerstone

Cornerstone is a large, vibrant evangelical church based in the city centre on Castle Boulevard. Our vision is summed up in Psalm 78:4 – “We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done”. As a student, Preview is the place to be - the student group meets at 5pm on a Sunday to chill out, look at the Bible and have a meal together, before our evening service at 7pm. See you there!

St Nics

St Nic's is a city-centre church called to serve Nottingham and make disciples for Jesus. We come from a wide range of backgrounds; we are people of all ages and we work hard for unity across the churches in our city. We are passionately committed to seeing transformation in individuals and communities through the Good News of Jesus, through welcoming people into authentic Christian community and through training in discipleship. Prayer is at the heart of all we do. We aim to be real, generous, welcoming and truthful.

We love journeying with students through their time at university – cheering them on to live for Jesus wholeheartedly in the now, but also in the rest of their life to come. This Autumn 2020, alongside our online Sunday services and midweek Student Communities, we’ll be providing opportunities for new students to meet others from St Nic’s both in person (in small groups) and online. Check out our website for the latest information.

Trent Vineyard

Trent Vineyard is an active and growing church that’s part of the wider Vineyard movement. We value biblical teaching, authentic intimate worship, the ministry of the Holy Spirit and much more. We’re passionate about seeing every student develop and grow in their relationship with Jesus, and by looking outward, we long to see Jesus shared with our friends and communities. We love being family together, and place a big emphasis on involvement in student Small Groups, which are a great place to build relationships and grow together, as well as serving one another and our city. There will also be loads of other events for students to get involved with across the course of the year.

Trinity

At Trinity Church Nottingham we’re convinced that God is at work in Nottingham and that he’s calling us all to be a part of that. Our aim is simple: we want to encounter Jesus, to become like Him and do to the things He did. In nutshell, we want to be a church where we learn to follow Jesus together.

Our student/young adult community meets after our 6:30pm service for food and drink. Our goal as Young Adults is to become a community of people hungry for the presence of God in our lives and passionate about seeing our City come alive in Jesus. Come join us!

Woven

At Woven church we love discipling students and reaching those in our communities. Our dream is to see the students set on fire for Jesus and Nottingham transformed. We meet as a student community every Thursday evening and we'd love to have you join us! On Sundays, we'll be at the 6pm evening gathering at St Margaret's to greet you and welcome you!

For Freshers week, we will have a mini bus service to pick you up and drop you off from both the Thursday and Sunday services.

CHOOSING A CHURCH - TIPS!

1. Think about a list of priorities- things that are most important to you that you want to see in the life of the church or how the church is run. For example: Solid Bible teaching focus on a Sunday, charismatic worship, a strong missional vision. Keep these in mind whilst you check out the churches to help you narrow the selection down.

2. Check out some of the websites of the churches- perhaps look at the descriptions above and then check the ones out that you like the sound of. The websites are great to give you a feel of the church and often give information on their theological standpoints on how they do church during day to day life.

3. Choose around 4 churches that might be a good fit for you. Give them a try! Contact our NTUCU church reps to accompany you there. Many churches have a morning and evening service so you could try one in the morning and then a different one in the evening.

4. Think about how the church fits with your priority list and consider what it was like to get to. If it's an hour away, then maybe that will prove difficult later on! Another idea is to ask one of the congregation to describe their leaders in 3 words or phrases. Churches often become like their leaders, so this will give you an insight into the feel of the church without having to visit too many times before committing to one.

5. One of the things that most people find, is that they have a hunch about which one feels right. No church will be perfect, but sometimes God shows us exactly where we should be. Do what feels right to you, not just where your new friends are at!

It's really important to remember that if you end up at a church for a few weeks but it turns out to not fit you, then you can move. Don't worry about this, churches are always welcoming to students- this isn't limited to only the first few weeks of term! If you have any questions or need any support, do not hesitate to get in contact with us.
